Hello everyone! I'm back after over three years away, and I'm excited to reconnect with you all. During my time off, I let other people's opinions and actions steer my life, leading me to feel disconnected from my true self. Now, I want to share my journey, highlighting the lessons I’ve learned and the path I’m forging back to my authentic self.
I am Amanda, a 35-year-old mom of two boys, navigating the joys and challenges of motherhood while also focusing on my self-healing journey. My aim is to rediscover my "pink"—the vibrant, joyful part of me that's been overshadowed by everyday life.
The Reality of Nursing
Many of you know that I work in the medical field. My journey in nursing began with the desire to make a meaningful difference in people's lives. I pictured myself forming deep connections with patients and providing the compassionate care they need during tough times. Unfortunately, the reality has not matched my expectations.
In today’s fast-paced healthcare environment, I often feel like I'm just a "med-passing robot." According to a 2022 survey, 70% of nurses reported feeling rushed in their daily tasks, which leaves little room for genuine interactions with patients. This high-pressure atmosphere has left me frustrated and yearning for a more fulfilling connection with those I care for. I want the time and space to answer questions, provide reassurance, and truly impact my patients' days.
Rediscovering My Passion
During my time away, I reflected deeply on my motivations for entering the nursing field. I realized I needed to reconnect with my passion for helping others by being the nurse who listens and understands. This transformation hasn’t come easily; it demands that I confront my own fears and uncertainties, but I know it’s essential for my growth.
I’ve started experimenting with new ways to connect with my patients. For instance, I now take the time for simple, meaningful conversations that go beyond just checking vitals. I aim to understand their concerns, which often makes their hospital experience less daunting and more personal.
The Importance of Self-Care
As a nurse and a mom, I frequently prioritize others' needs over my own. However, I’ve realized that self-care isn't just a luxury; it's critical for my well-being. To show up as the best version of myself for my family and patients, I must take care of myself first.
I’ve begun incorporating small self-care practices into my daily routine. I dedicate just five minutes to breathe deeply whenever I feel overwhelmed, enjoy a quiet cup of coffee each morning, and indulge in a good netflix binge on weekends. Even a few moments of peace can help recharge my spirit, making a big difference in my daily life.
Finding My "Pink" Again
Finding my "pink" again involves embracing the things that bring me joy and fulfillment. I’ve rediscovered hobbies I had set aside, like painting and writing, which allow me to express myself creatively. Engaging in these activities helps fill my emotional cup.
Moreover, I’ve been focusing on building a community that supports me. Connecting with other moms and nurses, who truly understand the unique challenges we face, has been incredibly uplifting. We share our experiences, celebrate our wins, and remind each other that we’re not alone in this journey.
Embracing Vulnerability
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned during this time is the incredible strength that comes from vulnerability. It’s okay to admit when I'm struggling or unsure. By sharing my experiences, I’ve found that others are more willing to share their own challenges, creating an atmosphere of support and understanding.
Being open has also allowed me to connect more effectively with my patients. When I approach them with empathy and a genuine desire to connect, it helps foster trust and comfort. I aim for my patients to feel recognized as individuals with unique stories, rather than just a number on a chart.
Looking Ahead
As I continue on this journey of self-healing and rediscovery, I’m excited about the road ahead. I aspire to be a nurse who provides not only medical care but also emotional support. My goal is to create an environment where patients feel valued and heard.
Additionally, I'm passionate about advocating for a balance between efficiency and compassionate care in nursing. My hope is that by sharing my stories and insights, I can inspire others to join me in this vital mission for change.
A Final Note
Thank you so much for taking the time to read my reintroduction. I'm grateful to be back and to share more of my journey with you. Life is an ongoing process of growth and rediscovery, and I'm eager to embrace this new chapter.
If you find yourself on a similar journey, I encourage you to reflect on what brings you joy and fulfillment. Remember, it’s never too late to reconnect with your true self. Together, let's support one another through the challenges of life, motherhood, and our careers.

Here's to finding our "pink" again, one step at a time!
