I never dreamed I would be leaving the medical field after 12 years of dedicated service. It feels wrong and scary to part ways with the only career I've ever known. But now, I find myself at a crossroads. Should I finish my degree and obtain my RN just in case I need it later, or should I let it go? These questions haunt me as I transition into a new chapter of my life.

As I navigate this change, I often reflect on my past journey. The medical field has shaped my identity for over a decade. However, I feel a strong pull toward a new path that aligns better with my current priorities and values.

The Decision to Transition

My new focus is on embracing the stay-at-home mom role while exploring ways to generate extra income. Recently, I've started working with resin molds, tapping into my creative side. It’s crucial for me to be present for my boys. I refuse to send them to daycare or enroll them in the local public schools, especially given my concerns about the education system in California.

Choosing this stay-at-home lifestyle means not only being there for my children but also establishing a nurturing space for them to flourish. I want to shape their early experiences and instill values that I hold dear, such as kindness, resilience, and hard work.

Embracing the Stay-at-Home Mom Life

Scrolling through social media, I see many moms generating income from their phones, which makes me realize that success nowadays doesn't always require a college degree. A 2023 survey showed that 67% of entrepreneurs believe their success is due more to experience than formal education. As I grow older, I sometimes feel that college can be overhyped.

I aim to channel my focus and determination into being a resourceful stay-at-home mom who generates income from scratch. I want to teach my boys essential life skills, such as financial literacy, budgeting, and safeguarding their digital presence. For example, instead of just handing them a smartphone, I will explain the importance of privacy settings and responsible online behavior.

Teaching Life Skills

My primary goal is to encourage my children to express themselves and relish their childhood. This time is precious and irreplaceable. I aspire to foster an environment that nurtures creativity, curiosity, and independence.

I told my partner, “Please forgive me if it seems like the kids come before you. I am here to stay, and I want to prioritize this short window when they truly need me.” This captures my deep commitment to my family and the importance of being present during these formative years.

The Challenges Ahead

The shift from a structured career in healthcare to the unpredictable world of stay-at-home parenting and entrepreneurship presents numerous challenges. Some days, I second-guess my decisions and worry if I am making the right choice. The fear of the unknown can be overwhelming, yet I remind myself that growth often requires stepping outside of my comfort zone.

Embracing this uncertainty has started to look like an opportunity for growth. Each day offers fresh challenges but also a chance to discover new passions and skills. I feel excited about this journey and curious about how it will shape my family's future.

Finding Balance

As I start this new chapter, I am learning the importance of balance. It can be tempting to get lost in the excitement of side hustles, but I must remember to prioritize both my family and self-care. Finding equilibrium will be essential as I adapt to this lifestyle.

I am committed to creating boundaries and ensuring that my time is productive. Whether I am working on my craft, engaging in educational activities with my boys, or simply enjoying family time, I want to fully embrace each moment. For instance, I plan to spend weekends as a family, focusing on simple activities like picnics or movie nights, vital for maintaining our close bonds.

New Horizons Await

While bidding farewell to the medical field is daunting, I am welcoming this change with enthusiasm. I look forward to the endless possibilities that lie ahead as I aspire to be a dedicated stay-at-home mom and budding entrepreneur.

This journey is not only about my personal growth; it’s about creating a loving, supportive environment for my children. I am dedicated to teaching them valuable life skills and engendering the importance of following their passions.

Taking this leap of faith reminds me that change can be beautiful. It is an opportunity to redefine success on my terms and create a life that aligns with my values and priorities. Here’s to new beginnings and the adventures that lie ahead!
